Curbside Pickup

Now Offering Curbside Pickup!

How do I request books?

There are two ways:
1.  The quickest and easiest way is to place a reserve online.
  • Log in to the library catalog (call us if you don’t remember you’re login)
  • Search for a book in the library catalog.
  • When you find a book you want to check out, click on the title.
  • A new page opens that gives you information about the book.
  • Click on the Reserve This Item tab.
  • Verify how you want to be contacted when your item is ready for pickup and click the Place Reserve tab.

2.  Call the library and tell the staff what you want to check out, 432-264-2260. You will need to know the exact title and author’s name when you call.

When and how long does it take before I can pick up my items?

  • Curbside pickup is available from 11:00 am – 5:30 pm.
  • Please allow 24 hours from the time you place your request until pick up. The library will notify you when your order is ready.

How do I pick up the books?

  • Park in the first row of parking and call us at 432-264-2260.
  • To observe social distancing and safety precautions when picking up materials, you must wear a mask even though you are in your car. For your protection and ours, library staff will also be wearing masks.
  • Please pop your trunk and we will place the items in your trunk. If that is not an option, we will place them in the backseat on the passenger side.

How do I return the books?

  • All items may be dropped off in the book return box next to the front door. Please do not attempt to return any items to library staff directly, as we will be observing social distancing measures and all items need to go through quarantine protocols.
  • Books only may be dropped off in the drive through return in the alley beside the library.

What if I don’t have a library card?

  • Complete the Library Card Application found under the About Us tab on the library webpage.
  • Mail the application, a copy of your Texas Driver License or State ID, and proof of residency if your driver license or ID does not have a Howard County address. You can also take a picture of the documents and email them to circulation@howrdcountytx.com.
  • Your library card will be mailed to you.

How many items can I checkout?

  • Adults and young adults: 5 items total – books, DVDs, audiobooks
  • Children: 10 books
  • Sorry no kits or launchpads may be checked out at this time.

Why can’t I checkout as many as I used to?

Unfortunately we do not have a way of disinfecting the items when they are returned. Therefor returned items must be quarantined for 72 hours. By limiting the number of items checked out, fewer materials will be in quarantine at one time thus allowing more available items.

Please note that if you choose to use curbside pickup, please continue to practice social distancing protocols as stated by local, state, and federal government guidelines. The public is also advised to not do curbside pickup if they are experiencing any symptoms of illness including but not limited to: shortness of breath, fever, sore throat or cough. Social distancing measures help keep you safe and protect our community.
